When you start a vacation, for many the experience starts with the journey. While business class flight, particularly on long haul flights can really elevate your journey, its not always in the realm of possibilities either due to cost or availability. This is even more true if you are traveling as a family, as premium seats can really add up.

I have found over the years, there are so many little things you can do to really elevate your flying experience. Below are a few of my tips/ tricks that make flying economy , extra comfortable.

TOP 5 TIPS TO ELEVATE YOUR EXPERIENCE

  1. TRAVEL CARDS – Invest in a very good travel card so you get lounge access and the ability to clear security and customs quickly . Chase Saphire Reserve or Amex Platinum are my favorite and I have both. While the fees can be hefty, there are a lot of benefits you receive like TSA Precheck and Global Entry that allow you are your family to speed through security. Lounge access is also a huge perk, and its not just about relaxing… you can have dinner, drinks in the lounge and given the price of airport food, this can be a major value if traveling with kids. There are a myriad of other benefits like car rental upgrades, hotel credits etc but for me the biggest perk is the lounges. (The links in for the Amex and Chase also have a big sign up bonus of free travel points!)
  2. INVEST IN COMFORT – On the plane, it’s incredibly important to be comfortable and because temperatures in planes can go from cold to hot in minutes, its important to dress in layers. I also have zero shame in changing into a nice set of PJs, particularly if its an overnight flight – they do in business class!

3. CHIC ORGANIZATION – When I travel, I also come equipped with a chic backpack with a lot of compartments so that I have easy access. I prefer to keep my bag with me vs in the overhead bin so I can access everything. In my backpack, I always have a very cute amenity kit that has hand cream, medications, lip balm, hand sanitizer etc. I have created a list in Walmart to all the items I use. 4. STAYING ENTERTAINED Lastly, invest in great entertainment. Its the gift that keeps giving. Buy yourself a great tablet and really nice headphones. It makes a huge difference. Also ensure headphones are noise canceling!

5. SLEEPING COMFORTABLY Being comfortable on a flight, is priority one. Buy very cozy socks or slippers, invest in a good travel pillow and blanket and a weighted eye mask can make all the difference. For ease, this is the link to some of my favorites!

Using these tips can truly elevate the experience and while not business class, you can treat yourself just as well and make flight a little more enjoyable.
