Traveling with kids can be one of the most rewarding experiences, as it creates memories that last a lifetime and fosters a sense of adventure in the whole family. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few destinations that stand out for their kid-friendly experiences, exceptional service, and ability to cater to both adults and children alike. Here are some of my favorite places to travel with kids. I truly believe that when you go on a holiday, you need to come back feeling recharged.

1. Disney Cruises

I know the word Disney and Relaxation don’t necessarily sound like they go hand in hand, but I was utterly shocked at what a great time a Disney Cruise can be and is for people of all ages. You do not need to be a Disney lover to love a Disney Cruise.

From the moment you step on board, the experience is amazing. The ships are designed with families in mind, offering something for everyone and the service is very next level. (I swear my room was cleaned at least 3-4x a day).

So what makes a Disney Cruise so great?

  • Kids’ Activities: Character meet-and-greets, themed kids’ clubs, and even pirate parties with Fireworks. (I believe Disney is the only cruise that is allowed or does do a Firework show).
  • For Parents: Adults-only areas like Serenity Bay (on Castaway Cay) and fine dining at Palo. They also have special activities like wine tasting on board.
  • Entertainment: Broadway-caliber shows and movies under the stars ensure the whole family is entertained.

Pro tip: Opt for a stateroom with a verandah to enjoy ocean views while the kids nap!

2. South Africa Safari: A Wild Adventure

A safari might not be the first thing that comes to mind for family travel, but South Africa’s family-focused lodges and activities make it an unforgettable experience:

  • Kid-Friendly Lodges: Properties like &Beyond’s Phinda Mountain Lodge or Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge offer family suites and special kids’ programs.
  • Wildlife Encounters: Nothing beats seeing your child’s face light up when they spot their first lion, elephant, or giraffe.
  • Educational Opportunities: Many lodges include interactive sessions with rangers, teaching kids about conservation and local ecosystems.

South Africa’s malaria-free regions, like Madikwe and the Eastern Cape, are particularly great for families with young children. Many longest also have great spa experiences – there is nothing like a massage amidst nature.

3. Greece: The All-Inclusive Bliss of Ikos Resorts

When it comes to luxury and family-friendly travel, Ikos Resorts in Greece are hard to beat. I would say that IKOS is the luxury all inclusive for people who don’t like All Inclusive. The food, service, pool side pampering all make this a dream:

  • All-Inclusive Convenience: With Michelin-starred dining, kids’ menus, and 24-hour room service, everyone’s needs are met.
  • Kids’ Clubs: From toddlers to teens, Ikos offers supervised programs and activities. Our kids did the private tennis lessons each day and significantly improved!
  • Relaxation for Parents: While the kids are entertained, parents can relax by the pool or indulge in a spa treatment.
  • Local Experiences: The resort’s Local Drive Adventure program lets families explore nearby villages and beaches in a complimentary Tesla.

4. Tulum, Mexico: Relaxation Meets Adventure at the Conrad

Tulum’s laid-back vibe and natural beauty make it a wonderful destination for families, and the Conrad Tulum delivers a luxury experience that’s surprisingly kid-friendly:

  • Spacious Suites: Perfect for families, with plenty of room to spread out.
  • Kids’ Amenities: From thoughtful welcome gifts to activities like crafting and cooking classes, the Conrad makes kids feel special.
  • Dining: While the hotel’s restaurants are excellent, we loved exploring Tulum’s local dining scene for authentic Mexican flavors.
  • Outdoor Adventures: Swim in cenotes, visit ancient Mayan ruins, or simply enjoy the pristine beaches.

The Conrad Tulum combines elegance with a warm, family-friendly atmosphere that makes it one of our favorite spots. To note, this resort is ‘quiet luxury’ and while there are activities, it does not have waterparks, poolside games etc.

5. Maldives is not just for Honeymooners A Luxury Family Escape

Think the Maldives is only for honeymooners and romantic getaways? Think again. The Maldives is redefining itself as the ultimate destination for families seeking a perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and relaxation. From ultra-luxurious resorts with private overwater villas to world-class kids’ clubs offering engaging activities like marine conservation and island exploration, there’s something for every age. To give you an idea, our kids enjoyed cooking classes, snorkeling excursions, scavenger hunts and playing pool and ping pong at the kids/teen club. Many say the Maldives is a bucket list item and while its far and can be pricey, there are great deals to be had and once you have been, I promise you will be back.
