Having the right luggage when traveling with kids can be a game changer. It keeps things organized, weight of bags comes into play as families often have a lot of extra to take. Luggage is also a bit of an investment because it does (no matter what) end up taking a beating and you want it to look nice and not fall apart.

Different types of trips also call for different types of luggage. I am not a big fan of buying sets of luggage because I truly think you need different bags for different reasons and I would rather get a la carte bags that suit my needs then a set of luggage where I don’t use all the pieces.

The Carry On

I am a big fan of carry on because you can grab/go, you don’t have to pay extra baggage fees but sometimes doing carry on is not possible. My sister for example would never carry on luggage as she prefers a hands free experience. There is also the debate of hard case vs soft case. I know hard cases look beautiful, but I am a big fan of the soft case for many reasons.. 1) easier to store at home as you can push down the front of the bag, 2) No issue with scratches and 3) If you are carrying on they are easier to squish into the overhead compartment. I have had the Delsey Helium for ages (at least 5 years) and it takes a beating! If you do want a hard case, believe it or not, I love the Amazon Basics. It has actually held up longer than more expensive hard cases. It’s shockingly great quality and looks very aesthetic.

Personal Item/Under the Seat Bag

Having the right bag for ‘under the seat’ is important. As a mom, I am the resident carrier of extra clothes (in case of air sickness), medication, chargers, passports etc. It is not the most beautiful, but I do love the Amazon Travel Backpack. So many compartments. I am rarely this ‘passionate’ about a bag, but this is a game changer. I love it because it is actually so much bigger and more spacious then it looks and with so many compartments, it’s easy for me to organize.

The Universal Bag Everyone Must Have

We are all guilty of buying too much on a trip and struggling at the end. The Longchamp foldable shopping bag is a GAME CHANGER. I have no idea how I ever lived without it. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but are so worth it. I bought mine at Heathrow a few years ago and it still looks beautiful and it comes on every trip. It takes up so little room in your bag but then opens up to this large bag after. I have also used this when I get to the airport and I am a bit overweight with luggage. So easy to pop heavy running shoes etc in the bag. Another bag that is getting rave reviews (I have not tried it) is the Baggu Cloud bag which also folds down.

The Large Duffle Bag

This Samsonite Duffle Bag has seen the world and taken a massive beating. We are actually on Duffle Bag 2 and it was worth buying again because it is SO ROOMY and with a lot of airlines charging for each bag, we can easily get (with careful packing and packing cubes) our entire family trip (5-7 days) in this bag.
