We love to travel as a family and have been to Mexico multiple times and have always wanted to try Tulum.
Due to the kids school calendar, we often are only able to travel at the busiest times of the year. We love nice properties and are not huge fans of all inclusive hotels so we really intrigued by going to the Conrad Hotel in Tulum.
We booked our vacation through Expedia and were able to get direct flights/ocean view room during the festive season. We landed in Cancun at around 1130 am and were at our hotel by 130 pm.
Getting to Tulum from Cancun can be expensive and it is about 1-2 hours away from Cancun depending on traffic. We opted to use Canada Transfers (even though we are from the US). We pre-arranged the transportation and it was professional and a fair price. We chose to do a private transfer since there were four of us.
The ride to the Conrad was just over an hour and it was pretty smooth. I would recommend Canada Transfers as a transportation option for those looking for a reasonable and reliable option.

The Conrad is a new property and the adjacent property is a Hilton All Inclusive. We did not visit the Hilton (it wasn’t really even visible from where were staying).
The Conrad is a beautiful property (very instagram worthy), but it is also a quiet property. It is not all inclusive and it does not have a ton of activities. You are really at the Conrad for the beauty of the hotel, beautiful beach and relaxation. While they do a have kids clubs/teen clubs they are not known for kids/teen activities. My kids are 10 and 13 and like relaxation etc so they didn’t mind the lack of kids stuff.
The Beach and pool area at the Conrad are a highlight Gorgeous sandy beach (no shoes needed) and beautiful day beds by the pool. This was probably one of the nicer hotel pools I have seen.

We visited the spa which is very expensive, however, a man by the pool offered us a 25% discount so my husband and I treated ourselves to treatments on Xmas day. While the treatment is great, the sauna, steam room, cold and hot pools were a real treat. The spa vibe was very luxurious and worth the price.
Food at the Conrad is very expensive and somewhat limited for kids. While they have 5 restaurants, they food menus are smallish and if you have picky eaters it might be tough. Our favorite restaurant was the asian restaurant and we at there at least 3 times. The Pad Thai was a favorite!
We ventured off property 2 x. One day we arranged a private tour with Canada Transfers. To be honest the ‘private tour’ was more of a driver taking us to various areas. We saw the Tulum Ruins (self guided by us only, no tour guide) and then we visited the Cenotes. We opted to pay $35 US for a private guide at the Cenote and it was so worth it! Additionally a photographer from the Cenote joined and took pictures of our family and at the end you are able to purchase a package. We didn’t think we would, but the photos were great and the experience was so memorable, we bought the entire photo package at the end. (You can negotiate the price and even if we paid full price it still would have been worth it).
The second time we went off property was a day trip to Tulum town and we went to the beach road where we looked at boutiques, had ice cream and then had lunch at the Zebra Club on the beach. Taxis are pricey so keep that in mind when planning your day.

All in all we loved our trip and would be back. The Conrad is beautiful but I would most likely try a different hotel next time. What is your favorite hotel in Tulum?
